Digital Mavericks

Do any of these sound like you?
  • I enjoy sharing my digital photos online with my family and friends
  • I print a lot of pictures
  • I keep my digital photos backed up and protected
  • I sometimes prefer to adjust the settings and functions on my camera manually
  • I take digital photos with more than one device
  • I keep my digital photos well-organized
If you answered yes to most or all of these, you may be a Digital Maverick. Camera users in this group often consider photography a hobby. Most rate themselves as advanced users, and some even consider themselves photographic experts. They tend to invest the most in digital cameras and accesories and are often early adopters of technology.

Peek inside their camera bag and you'll see that Digital Mavericks tend to own moderately priced equipment. Typically they own either a standard digital camera or a digital SLR, and many also own cellphones or smartphones with built-in digital cameras. Although they're the earliest adopters of new technology, Digital Mavericks are the most likely of all photographers to own and use film-based cameras. They love photography and enjoy all aspects of the hobby. Many Digital Mavericks are also very interested in other types of digital imaging, such as video. They are more likely than other groups - by 2 to 1 - to own either a standard or digital camcorder.

Digital Mavericks are big into digital imaging accessories, too. They are the most likely to own cleaning accessories and digital picture frames, although many are interested in pretty much any accessories related to capturing, storing, editing, printing and sharing images. Examples include memory cards, external hard drives, color printers, cables, battery chargers and protective cases.

Digital Mavericks take the most photos of any other group of users at an average of 95 per month. They are some of the most prolific digital photographers, taking pictures of a wide variety of subjects. They're more likely to e-mail photos to others, edit or enhance them, post them to social networking sites, print them at home and copy them to CDs. Many have posted a picture to photo sharing sites.

What advanced features do Digital Mavericks look for in a digital camera? They enjoy such features as face recognition, touch screen controls, wireless connectivity, geotagging and megatagging, voice commands and voice recognition. Overall, Digital Mavericks are highly satisfied with the options available for sharing, editing, printing and storing photos, and they are comfortable doing all of these things.
